Providing Helium Gas Seal Testing Service for Mong Duong 2 Thermal Power Plant

From October 24 to October 28, PHATECO performed a Helium gas tightness test for the turbine system – Mong Duong 2 Thermal Power Plant (Cam Pha – Quang Ninh) at the request of AES-TKV Mong Duong Power Company Limited.

The work was performed by Engineer Nguyen Duc Dung – ASNT NDT Level III Expert and Engineer Khuong Hung Cuong – Supervisor of CNH Department.

The inspection was conducted under operating conditions, with very high temperatures and high noise levels, requiring the use of specialized walkie-talkies with soundproof earmuffs for communication.

The inspection process discovered 32 leaks in turbine No. 1 and 27 leaks in turbine No. 2. This leakage phenomenon causes air to enter the condensate, affecting the materials and performance of the plant. Detecting and specifying the location of the leak will help the plant to fix it to reduce air leakage inside, thereby increasing fuel efficiency and better protecting materials.

This is the first time Mong Duong 2 Thermal Power Plant has applied this method to detect leaks and it is expected to conduct this inspection periodically every year.

With the success of this inspection, along with PHATECO’s plan to widely introduce the service, it is hoped that many Thermal Power Plants, Petrochemical Refineries, etc. will be interested, recognize the advantages of this method and apply it in the operation and maintenance process. That is also an opportunity for PHATECO to expand this service in the future.
