Anti-corrosion service by new method – UHP

    Date Submitted 09/01/2025

Currently, PHATECO is implementing a project to prevent corrosion of steel structures on Dai Hung 02 platform using the method of using high pressure water, also known as Ultra High Pressure Water Jetting (UHP). This is a new anti-corrosion method implemented by PHATECO with the first project involving 14 people divided into 4 types of work including: rope access, scaffolding installation, high pressure water jetting and painting. The implementation groups are under the direction and coordination of Engineer Chu Tat Thang – Head of Marine Engineering Department. This is one of the largest projects of the Technical Department, PHATECO Company in 2016 with very strict requirements on quality from the investor, Dai Hung Petroleum Exploration and Exploitation Company (PVEP-POC).

Technicians are working with the UHP method

In the world and in Vietnam, this is a very popular method in anti-corrosion on oil and gas rigs where fire and explosion safety requirements are very high. The UHP method has outstanding advantages over traditional methods such as dry sandblasting, metal grit blasting or water sandblasting, which is absolutely safe against fire and explosion during construction, and does not contaminate the equipment operating on the rig after finishing the job. The only limitation of this method is that the surface requirement cannot reach the values of SA2.0, SA2.5 and SA3.0 of the ISO-8501 standard for dry sandblasting, but instead requires the surface coefficients WJ1, WJ2, WJ3. WJ4 of the SSPC-SP12/NACE 5 standard. However, this is only a small disadvantage that is completely acceptable for the maintenance and repair of offshore structures compared to the biggest advantage of absolute fire and explosion safety for oil and gas projects, without affecting the operation and exploitation of the rig.

The whole team is trying their best to finish the work soon with the desire to bring PVEP-POC customers the highest quality of service, and at the same time hope that in the future PHATECO will be the leading unit in Vietnam in the field of anti-corrosion by UHP.
